Viña Zorzal, founded in 1989 by Antonio Sanz and now run by his sons Xabi, Mikel, and Iñaki, emphasizes sustainable viticulture, biodiversity, and native flora, with organic practices and minimal intervention (no additives, low sulfites, spontaneous fermentation).  The Malayeto is sourced from a single-vineyard in the D.O. Navarra region in Spain and crafted from 100% Garnacha (Grenache) grapes sourced from a 2.39-hectare plot of 40-year-old bush vines in Fitero, located at 520 meters altitude on rocky, stony soils with clay, limestone, and conglomerates. This unique terroir, situated at the geological divide between the Sierra de Cameros and the Ebro Basin, contributes to the wine’s distinctive character, with deep-rooted vines seeking water in a continental climate.

Luis Gutiérrez of Robert Parker's The Wine Advocate rated this wine 93+ points.  “The 2022 Malayeto surprised me.  This wine is always harmonious and goes beyond the variety even in a warm, dry and ripe year like 2022.  And it has a harmony and balance, coming through as clean and expressive, with precision and definition.  This is the 10th vintage for this plot of Garnacha grown on an alluvial terrace.  It fermented in stainless steel and concrete and matured in a 4,000-liter oak vat and 13 500-liter French oak barrels for 12 months.”  (Nov. 14, 2024).  Organic.
