The Quinta das Maias Dão Red 2017 is a vibrant, organic red wine from the Dão region of Portugal, known for its intense fruit and elegant tannins. It offers a complex nose with notes of blackberry, plum, and cassis, complemented by vanilla from oak aging. The palate is powerful yet smooth, with firm tannins and a long, satisfying finish. This wine is particularly noted for its ability to pair well with a variety of dishes, from baked fish and lamb to cod and goat cheese.

The 2017 Tinto is an unoaked blend of 40% Syrah, 25% Castelão, 20% Tinta Roriz and 15% Alicante Bouschet. It comes in at 13.5% alcohol. It's easy to underestimate this given its slim bottle and low price, but it's a very nice bargain this year (and it usually is). The only concession is that it doesn't have a lot of power and it is not really designed for long aging. However, it tastes great, the fruit is expressive and concentrated, and it has a finish filled with flavor. Adding a little complexity from the blend, this is well done in its understated and easy-drinking style. It will hold a few years, but it will show its best on the younger side, now and over the next couple of years. It requires no aging.
